A Better Day Comments

Carl was always the kindest Gentleman. He was good to the kids I used to take to Ch22 in Campfire. He found time to talk to them with his busy schedule. Later he was just as nice at Ch2 when an older group of Scouts toured the station. He always made time for the kids. Carl also made time to talk to our group of students from WIBS Broadcasting School on a much later tour. He always had time to answer our questions. Carl was alyays in the public TV light in the Dayton area. Seems like I've known him all my life and my kids have grown up with him in the living room also. He has always been a fixture at the National Nite Out in Centerville and then at Hara. He was gracious on the car show circuit as well. I have pictures of his Kit car. I never saw Carl in a bad mood. He genuinely loved the people he met and it showed. Carl battled his cancer like he lived, in Dignity and Grace. The Dayton area is saddened by his passing, but Heaven rejoices!!! God Bless you Carl, you will be missed.

I have an eye disease, but still studied broadcasting with Sheila Miller at WSMR. I met Carl before that, and as his health went south, so did my vision (WWSU). Donna and Carl were at my daughters wedding, Matt flew in from Afganistan on their wedding day, 12/21/2006. Carl and Donna were there at the Kettering Civic Center, with Mayor, Don Patterson. I honor you, your wife & your son, for his service, But I honor all of your family, for sharing your families life, with us!

Carl will missed by everyone he touched. I remember listening to him on the radio when I was younger and then seeing him do wood working on a shopsmith on TV. He was doing that long before Bob Villa! Carl even wore a plaid shirt. He made that look easy too.We send our prayers and good wishes for his family. We have all lost a good friend. Rest in peace Carl.

Carl was a great man, a great community figure, and a wonderful person. I had the pleasure of meeting Carl and Donna many times. I've never met someone who took his job so seriously casual as Carl. You would have never know he was a celebrity if you didnt date yourself a bit when talking to him!

When I saw the news about Mr Day,the first thing I remembered was about 8 years ago a little girl from Fairborn named Marsha Langdon had cancer and the Wee Hawks football team she cheered for was trying to raise money for her,Mr Day found out and got the word out and people helped from every football organization. He came to field and interviewed me as a member of the board and kept in contact with her until her death in November of that year.He was a caring and loving person. He will be missed and my prayers are with his family.

I saw the news this morning and my heart sank. Guy Fogle was talking about Carl and the years they worked together. That group back then with Carl, Johnny Walker, Janet McGill, Don Brown and Guy was a great childhood memory. I never met Carl but felt like I knew him. Listening to Guy this morning, maybe I did know him. God Bless Carl Day.

We welcome to share our remembrances about Carl during your program, tomorrow morning at WKEF. We have known Carl for almost 36 years, having first met he and Donna at our engagement party. We have been friends ever since. While many will speak to his professional career, we would consider it an honor to give a personal view of his life and family. Steve was one of three that eulogized Donna at her memorial service. Carl has been woven into the fabric of our lives through good times....and not such good times. We wish to remember him for his work and inspiration to us all.We even have a short story we can tell when Carl made a hilarious comment about Don Hammond. With deepest sympathy to Carl's family, friends and fans.

I became friends with Carl when I wrote him a letter asking him to be our honorary Captain for Miles That Matter at the 2009 Air Force Marathon. We were raising money for A Special Wish. Not only did he accept our invitation but he walked across the finish line with us! This year we did the marathon again. I will always remember going on air with Pete and Malcolm to promote our fund raising efforts. Carl was a true professional but more importantly he was a wonderful friend.

I actually met Carl twice. The first time was as a kid. My Mother was a Campfire leader & had been friends with Barry Hobart for many years (aka Dr.Creep), so we got to be on Clubhouse 22 & tour the Channel 22 studio. While we were there,we ran into Carl in the hall. He greeted us with a friendly hello, chatted with us for a few minutes, & then in his own sweet way, told us to have a good time! The second time I met Carl, was much later on in my life, as an adult. I was at the Concorde De Elegance car show at the Boonshoft Museum with my Mother & Stepfather, & Carl was there with his wife. As we walked along looking at all the beautiful cars, My Stepfather & I came upon Carl & his wife & proceeded to make the small talk. Carl was just as kind & generous in real life as he was on the tv. He had a very soothing voice & I enjoyed talking with him & watching his many years of newscasts. No matter what, you could always depend on Carl to give you the full story. He was very loving & giving to his community, and as a community we loved him right back. Even in his times of need or sickness, he was always very calm & tried to remain upbeat & professional. Carl was a fighter to the end. Even though I only met him twice, I found him to be very kind, charitable, funny, & down to earth. He will always be a hero to me, as well as an inspiration. My condolences to his family & friends , as he will be very sadly & deeply loved & missed.

Carl is, without a doubt, one of the finest journalist our town has ever seen. I am glad to call Carl a friend for the 35 years I spent in the broadcast business. Carl and Donna will be truely missed.

I watched Carl for many years and gained alot of strength from his valiant fight against this horrible disease we call cancer. There was never a man that could be more upbeat in every thing he did or said. I, as well as my family will miss him horribly as well as so many others. He is at peace now and no longer in pain. As far as I am concerned he won that battle. We love you Carl!

Farewell, dear Friend you will be so missed. Carl and I worked together at WHIO-AM Radio in the 70's and remained very close friends till the present. I never saw him raise his voice or lose his temper and he always had a positive attitude. His eagerness to promote the Miami Valley, in any and every way possible is known to everyone. What a broadcaster...what a great loss to our community. My deepest condolences to Holli and her husband, Bart and his wife and Donald. At last, Carl you and your Donna are together again. Rest in Peace my Buddy.

Carl was a great man-when his coworker (and my cousin) Sandy died of ovarian cancer in 1994, I had a moment to speak with him at her service and he was very kind and caring. A gentleman in every way and his strength and courage was amazing. My thoughts and prayers to his family

I remember back in the day watching Carl on the news with my grandfather, he seems to have be a person that give and cared about others, may his family find peace later on in life, he was here for a reason and I am sure he did his part in this as an beloved human being.

I joked with Carl that he made it into the Fairborn High School Hall of Fame before I did! He graduated in 1955 and I graduated in 1970.A radio station in Tampa brought me down in 1982 to host a week of shows on the air. I got a call one night from a man with a voice a couple of octaves even deeper than Carls. He said to me So youre from Dayton?. I said yes. He came back I bet you know my boy. Now of course, I am in a market of several million people and work in the Dayton market and its not unusual for people to think that since youre from an area you might know their friend or family. Maybe I do sir I responded. Well he says he knows you. Now Im getting curious. His name is Carl Day. Talk about the apple not falling from the tree! His dad was not in radio but should have been!.When WING radio changed formats in 1987 and dropped talk shows, Carl was one of the first to tell me not to worry. I wouldnt be without work long. Within a month I was working at Carls old console across town at WHIO.I NEVER heard Carl in a controversy (unlike me) with anybody. I cant think of anybody inside or outside the business who EVER said a bad thing about Carl. And what better legacy could one leave! We will all miss you Carl!

Carl was gentleman and a gentle man. Never thinking first of himself but always those around him. When Carl was first diagnosed years ago, My dad had just passed. I sent Carl a note of hope and sincere best wishes. I shared my loss with him and wished him years of health and good recovery. Days later my phone rang and it was Carl Day calling to talk. We chatted for maybe 5-10 minutes about life, loss and the joy of memories. You see that was the type of guy Carl was...I never forgot that call...although I never really knew him, I knew him so well. Our community has lost a really GREAT GUY.God Bless him and his family.
