AP honors Division IV-VI all-staters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Steubenville's Dwight Macon and Kettering Alter's Austin Boucher, the opposing quarterbacks in the Division IV state title game, are among the stars singled out on the 2008 Associated Press Division IV-VI All-Ohio high school football teams announced Tuesday.
All selections were based on the recommendations of a state media panel.
Macon, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior, ran for 685 yards and passed for 1,489 yards and 20 TDs with just three interceptions for the Big Red, who meet Alter on Friday afternoon at Canton Fawcett Stadium for the title. Boucher, a 6-1, 185-pound senior, passed for more than 1,600 yards and ran for 800 for Alter.
Fostoria QB Micah Hyde joined them as a player of the year after rushing for more than 1,100 yards and passing for over 2,000.
Sharing defensive honors were Youngstown Mooney's John Simon, Steubenville's Branko Busick, Marcus Vicars of Genoa Area and Coldwater's Adam Homan. The coaches of the year were New Lexington's Bill Nutt, Reno Saccoccia of Steubenville and Coldwater's John Reed.
In Division V, the top offensive player was Findlay Liberty-Benton QB Aaron Craft (just one interception while completing 84 percent of his regular season passes for 2,150 yards and 27 TDs). The defensive honorees were Liberty-Benton's Jacob Miller, along with Hamler Patrick Henry's Cody Pettit and Kirtland's Ben Madden. Tabbed as the top coaches were Kirtland's Tiger LaVerde, Dan Johnson of Baltimore Liberty Union, Patrick Henry's Bill Inselmann and Kevin Maltarich of Creston Norwayne.
Liberty-Benton takes on Youngstown Ursuline in a battle of unbeatens for the state crown on Saturday afternoon at Massillon's Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
The threesome selected as the offensive players of the year in Division VI included Malvern QB Tyler Tucci, Eric Schwieterman of Norwalk St. Paul and Bascom Hopewell-Loudon signal-caller Tyler Brown. Sharing defensive honors were Pandora-Gilboa's Josh Lee and Hudson Smith of Hopewell-Loudon. Coaching honorees included Clyde "Luke" Lucas of Grove City Christian, Malvern's Dave Tucci and Todd Schulte of Delphos St. John's.
St. John's meets Hopewell-Loudon for the state title at 11 a.m. on Friday in Massillon.
