Ohio River reopens where tow boat sank
March 16, 2010 19:31 EDT

HEBRON, Ky. (AP) -- The Ohio River has reopened to traffic in northern Kentucky after officials had to suspend searching for a tow boat crew member missing since the vessel sank over the weekend.

Boone County Fire Department spokesman Mike Fronimos says the search was stopped due to the risk to searchers from rising water, increased currents and floating debris. He says the search can't resume until the water begins to recede and debris dissipates.

The river was reopened Tuesday to downriver traffic, and once it has moved through, all traffic will be allowed to move.

One crewman from the 40-foot tow boat remained missing after it went down early Sunday between the Anderson Ferry and Taylorsport.
